My son's football coach thinks he may have tendonitis on his heal. I'm going to make an appointment with the doctor but is there something I can do?
He's had this pain in his heal for a couple of days now and is limping. I've tried ice packs and Epsom salt foot baths .. they help a little, but the pain comes back quite quickly. |

Oh dear! Rest and what you're doing is best. keep the feet elevated every time he sits down. Immobilize the tendons in a special "cast" (the canvas type) for walking around.
Good tendon food is a combo of MSM and Chondroitin. That plus skin food and natural anti-inflammaties would be good (garlic, ginger, bromelain/pineapple, fish oil).
Also when the swelling goes down he should do very very gentle stretching - have him stand about 2 feet from a wall, put his hands on it like he's going to do wall pushups, and go forward towards the wall until he feels the stretch in his Achilles' tendon.
Also good is to exercise the opposing muscles by standing on a phone book - just the toes - and repeatedly lifting the heels up off the ground.
Good luck! |

Thanks Shelley!
It was such a worry, but luckilly my doctor saw him first thing this morning and said it wasn't bad at all and not a serious case. He recommended me buying him some special cusioned heal insoles to take the pressure off walking. I'll get them later today.
I think I'll give him a daily ice pack treatment, plus Cod liver oil, I have emergen-C with MSM and the one with glucosamine/chrondotian, plus plenty of pineapples. I'll up his cal/mag too.
What are the main inflammatory foods that he should avoid? I know sugar is bad, are there other things? |

| Anything that he's allergic to, basically. Trans-fatty acids, sometimes wheat, corn become allergans because they're over-eaten. Anything that coats his tongue can cause arthritis/inflammatory issues. A diet that is overall high in phosphorous and sulphur (meats, cheese, certain veggies) but low in potassium and calcium. |
