Shelley,
I have hayfever and am allergic to grass? This may seem like a stupid question, but does that mean I should avoid wheatgrass?
And if so would it be the same for barley?
I've been drinking green powder drinks and they seem to upset my stomach, so I'm wondering if this is why
Thanks |

Yep, once allergic to grasses, spores and pollen this can translate to other grasses like barley and alfalfa, raw honey. But Wheatgrass is one of those great myths out there - it's not healthy for anyone! I have a post in the fAQ under Diet Management about foods supposedly healthy that are not.
Dogs and cats chew grass in order to vomit. grass is full of toxins designed to protect grass from mold and mildew. Ever wonder why grass doesn't sprout tons of mushies or get moldy even tho every single night it gets wet and stays damp for hours? and even after it rains, no "ick" on the grass, it stays green! That's because it is FULL of toxins protecting it.
Ruminents like sheep and cattle have more than one stomach so they can safely digest and expel these toxins. Omnivores and predatores do not, so the toxins have an intense "cleansing" reaction on the body. People who are clean and have strong digestive systems will vomit as soon as they drink wheatgrass. I did, so I looked it up and discovered the truth. People who are toxic will digest it but eliminate it quickly, bringing on a quick cleanse. They get a "rush" and think that this is a good thing, but over time their immune system and digestive system is just worn out by it.
One poor misguided woman drank a lot of wheatgrass. Finally she did a series of colonics, which cleansed her so much her body was able to react stronger to the poisons in wheatgrass, and so she vomited it up. To this day she's convinced that the colonicist burned her intestines! Sheesh! |

shelley which super foods are ok to take then? i have been taking a 85% barley grass, 10% spirulina, 2% kelp, and 2%hesperiden mix. I'm confused because in the cadida diet guidelines you say that grasses are ok as long as its a supplement?
cheers caper |

that one is fine. Super-foods are great, provided you don't have allergies to grasses. It's only when raw that they are a problem. Super-foods have been treated and refined so the toxins aren't there any longer. That's why I recommend Liquid Chlorophyll - it has all the goodness of wheatgrass or barley grass iwthout any of the allergans. |

| Like u Caper, I thought it was a detox reaction. But the stomach cramps I get from taking Gillian McKeith's green drink, is very similar to how I feel when I eat wheat. I have been taking chlorophyll and that seems to be ok and I have bought some algae powder as an alternative. |
